Gold-N-Rods

 

Sullivan Gold-N-Rod Push-Pull and Pull-Pull Control Rods systems are the market leader in quality, selection and performance. They are used to connect servos to control surfaces, throttles and steerable/retractable gear. All are made to very tight tolerances for smooth, rugged performance. We make more types and lengths of control rods than anyone else. From the basic #503 to the carbon filled #584 there is a control rod for every application (See Control System Hardware for an application guide).

All Sullivan Control Rods come complete with hardware, including tempered steel Gold-N-Clevises.

Nylon Type

Nylon and Carbon filled Gold-N-Rods feature an exclusive spline design that reduces friction and eliminates sensitivity to dirt, dust and moisture. They are very easy to install -- a threaded stud screws into the inner rod, and a clevis attaches to the other end of the stud -- and they are versatile, as they are unaffected by fuel. They can be used for any part of the control system, and are made in sizes and lengths to fit just about any application.

Clevises, studs and other hardware are included in all kits. To assemble, simply cut the pieces to length and glue or clamp (see hardware) the outer sheath in place. The threaded studs simply self-thread into the inner rod (easily done with a cordless drill) and the clevises thread onto the studs.

Steel Cable Type

Cable Type Gold-N-Rods feature a Brass Plated Stainless Steel or Zinc Plated Steel Multistrand Cable, a Nylon Housing, Plated Hardened Steel Gold-N-Clevises and Brass Couplers.

To install, cut the housing and cable to length. Glue the housing into the model. Attach a Brass Coupler or Clevis to one end (by soldering, gluing or crimping). Insert the cable, and attach a Coupler or Clevis to the other end. Thread Clevis(es) onto the Coupler(s); you need a Coupler on at least one end for adjustability.

The .032 size cable is very flexible and light, and is excellent for throttle hookup for engine powered planes and for control surfaces in electrics and gliders.

Solid Steel Rod Type

The Solid Rod types include 2-56 or 4-40 Semihard End Threaded Rods for general use, and an ultralight .025 High Strength Wire type for park flyers, electrics and other small, light aircraft. The Threaded Rod styles include Gold-N-Clevises, and all types include a plastic housing.

Pull-Pull Systems

Pull-Pull setups take a little more time to install than push-pull rods, but yield a strong control system with virtually no play. These are especially popular for rudder and elevator controls in pattern and other competition aircraft.

The Kevlar® type is easily installed, strong, light weight and nonconductive. It is suitable for all pull-pull systems.

The Steel Cable Type utilizes nylon coated .015 Steel Cable, and is best for scale appearance or minimum wind resistance. It is more difficult to install and adjust than the Kevlar type, and must use turnbuckles to prevent twisting.

All hardware except bellcranks and control horns is included.
